Successfully made my first rice krispie treats the other day. Delicious, crunchy, stickiness! But cleaning up the pot afterwards... *shudder* Beyond sticky. But a few minutes of soaking in the sink and the rice came flying off as soon as I touched the water. Never knew the recipe was so simple. Butter, marshmallows, and Rice Krispies.
Presently in the oven are stuffed jalapenos. Jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Never made any before, but my mother-in-law fixed some up once when I was still dating her son and I remember him being quite fond of them. While I was wrapping them with bacon he trotted in sniffing the kitchen. Granted, the oven puts off an interesting smell and we both were smelling pizza. But I did hear him bragging to his party on Diablo III that he was getting stuffed jalapenos. XD
If all goes well, I'll be making either my first pizza or calzone in a few days. Got my pizza dough, pizza sauce, pepperoni, beef, sausage, onion, and mozzarella waiting. Considering I forget to pick up some important things at the grocery store the other day, I may pick up a few mushrooms while I'm there.
With the help of some instant mix, I'm getting pretty good at a strawberry cheesecake. And pudding and jello. Mmmmm, jello!
The other usual supper dishes around here are sweet peas, cream corn, fried okra, green beans, mashed potatoes, potato salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, hamburger steak, salmon patties with lemon gravy, chicken fingers, spaghetti, chicken casserole, vegetable soup, taco salad, beef rice, chicken rice, sloppy joes, Greek-style pasta, and now lasagna. I'd like to add lo mein, stir-fry rice, squash casserole, barbecue pork, pork chops, and maybe a few other dishes to the normal roster. Despite this list, I still feel like I don't put much variety out. I guess that could just be remnants of the cooking channel talking. That's one thing I don't like about Netflix: no cooking shows. Just strange food documentaries. Well, I guess there IS that Bourdain guy.
I can't help but wonder how many vegetarians or vegans read either my journal or my comic. Sometimes I wonder if my like of eating meat is offensive, then I remember their meals aren't offensive to me and anything not soy or broccoli related sounds pretty tasty, and I don't worry about it. Eh, I worry too much too often.
