Classics from the late 1800's. The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jane Eyre, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Little Lord Fauntleroy. That kinda stuff.
When I was a kid I loved horror, predominantly R.L. Stine works, and I liked The Babysitters Club.
Then in my early teens I hit a stage where I read any fantasy book dealing with dragons, gryphons, and magic. One book I got to read but still am kind of skittish to read has a man holding a sword facing off against a Hun wielding an automatic rifle while in the background a dragon fireblasts a helicopter from the sky. It's either going to be really good or unbelievably bad. I'm leaning towards "bad". Sometimes you can't resist judging a book by its cover.
